A Heartfelt Celebration: Geisel Honors Health Sciences Class of 2025

When community and compassion come together, extraordinary moments unfold. Under the warm sun on June 13, Geisel School of Medicine created such a moment as they gathered to honor 116 fresh graduates of their esteemed Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS), and Master of Health Administration (MHA) programs.

Embracing Purpose with Passion

Set on the verdant grounds of Dartmouth’s Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center, the Class Day event was more than a celebration; it was a profound reflection on the journey these graduates embarked upon. “In a world shaped by both incredible challenges and profound opportunities, your readiness to step up is heartening,” said Craig Westling, DrPH, MPH’09, MS, as he opened the ceremony.

Keynote Highlights: Keeping it Real

Keynote speaker Emmanuel Mensah, an influential leader, recounted the impactful story of a 13-year-old girl with HIV, cared for by a devoted neighbor who simply believed in “keeping it real.” Through this moving anecdote, Mensah inspired graduates to carry forward values of serving others and embracing resilience.

A Myriad of Accomplishments

This inspiring event showcased many milestones, from heartfelt student speeches by John Ross and Victoria Callahan, who highlighted life-changing projects, to an array of awards celebrating excellence in leadership, teaching, social justice, and more. As stated in Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, these recognitions reflect an enduring commitment to both personal and professional growth.

The Spirit of Networking: Alumni Wisdom

Alumni speaker Amol Saxena urged the graduates to cultivate their network—a treasure trove more valuable than technological advancements. Sharing nuggets of wisdom, he reminded them to adapt and improvise, echoing the revolutionary spirit instilled by former Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens.

The Path Ahead: Go Far, Go Together

As the echoes of applause filled the air, Dean Duane Compton, PhD, emphasized the graduates’ altruistic choice in pursuing careers dedicated to public welfare. “Your dedication to improving the health and well-being of individuals across the globe is a testament to your commitment to a higher calling.”

More Than Just a Ceremony

The celebration not only marked the culmination of rigorous academic endeavors but also sowed the seeds for impactful future endeavors. In the words of Mensah: “Go far, go together, go with purpose, keep it real.”

As these newly minted Rhodes Scholars of health sciences venture forth, they carry an unshakeable sense of purpose—the vision to change the world with integrity and compassion, stepping boldly into a future filled with endless possibilities.
