Triumph in the Adam Smith Division

In a stunning display of economic acumen, Mt. Hebron High School from Ellicott City has secured a double victory at the prestigious National Economics Challenge. This remarkable achievement took place in Atlanta, Georgia, where the team showcased their knowledge in the advanced Adam Smith Division, reserved for seasoned competitors and honors students.

The champions, Joseph Jeong, Mehin Pandya, Aadarsh Shah, and Vishva Rao, were lead to victory by their dedicated coach, Vann Prime. Their in-depth understanding of economic principles and strategic thinking propelled them to the top of the national rankings.

A Win in the David Ricardo Division

Not stopping at one victory, Mt. Hebron’s first-time competitors also emerged victorious in the David Ricardo Division. This division caters to students with limited formal economic education, highlighting the impressive potential and talent nurtured within these young economists.

The winning team, comprised of Daksh Mathapati, Tanvi Anand, Caleb Son, and Vitus Li, also coached by Vann Prime, demonstrated exceptional abilities and determination, reflecting the importance of comprehensive economic education in nurturing young talent.

The Importance of Economic Education

Raphael Bostic, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, emphasized the significance of economic literacy during the event. “Sound economic and financial habits can be established as early as age seven,” Bostic remarked, highlighting the critical role early education plays in shaping future decision-makers.

Christopher Caltabiano, interim chief executive officer and chief program officer of the Council for Economic Education, also praised the efforts of educators and students alike. “Too many states let students graduate without teaching them the basics of economics,” he cautioned, affirming the need for foundational economic education in equipping students for success.

A Legacy of Excellence

This victory marks the eighth consecutive year that Mt. Hebron High School has emerged as either national champions or finalists at the NEC. The school’s ongoing success in both national and international rounds serves as a testament to its commitment to excellence in economic education, as stated in Patch.

With an eye on the future, Mt. Hebron High School continues to inspire the next generation of economic thinkers, proving that dedicated mentorship and innovative teaching can break new ground for students nationwide.
