Thirty-three individuals suspected of ties to the terror organization Islamic State were arrested in Sakarya in northwest Turkey by the Turkish police.

According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, the detained individuals were plotting attacks ahead of municipal elections scheduled for late March, recruiting militants, raising funds for terrorist activities, and constructing an illegal mosque and madrasa.

During the raids, four pistols, two rifles, significant amounts of foreign currency, and banned radical materials were seized.
