The Joint Maritime Information Center reported that with the support of Iran, Yemen's Houthi rebel succeeded in carrying out their threat and for the first time struck a ship sailing around Africa rather than through the Suez Canal.

According to the center, on April 26, a drone launched by the Houthis attacked the container ship MSC ORION in the Indian Ocean, 600 kilometers off the coast of Yemen. The Portuguese-flagged boat was heading to the United Arab Emirates.

The ship sustained minor damage, and the crew was unharmed. The reason for the attack is reported to be the fact that one of the ship's co-owners is a company associated with Israel.
