Hamas has requested the Egyptian government to open the Rafah checkpoint to evacuate approximately 6,000 severely injured individuals, as Gaza doctors face challenges in treating them due to a shortage of medicine and equipment.

Hamas emphasizes that an additional 5,000 Gaza Strip residents are seriously ill, grappling with infectious diseases and injuries. The healthcare system in the Gaza Strip is overwhelmed by the sheer number of patients.

According to Hamas, only around 20 people are permitted to leave the Gaza Strip for treatment abroad each day.

On the evening of January 7, Kan-11 television channel reported that, at Israel's request, the United States urged Egypt not to allow Hamas to transport kidnapped Israelis from the Gaza Strip.
