On Tuesday, April 2, the UN Security Council will meet to discuss an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which killed top officials from Iran's Quds Force and Revolutionary Guard. Iran has confirmed the deaths of two generals and five deputy generals.

Russia's Deputy UN Representative, Dmitry Polyansky, announced that the meeting is set for 3:00 PM New York time on April 2, in response to Iran's request.

Iran's UN Mission stated that the airstrike blatantly violated international law and the protection of diplomatic sites.

Countries including Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Cuba, and Pakistan have condemned the airstrike.

The US government stated it had no prior knowledge of or involvement in the airstrike. According to two US officials who spoke to CNN anonymously, the US was informed about an operation in Syria when Israeli planes were already in the air but didn't know the intended target.
