The armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have announced the suppression of a coup attempt.
Gunfire was reported near the Palais des Nations, the official residence of President Felix Tshisekedi, and the home of parliamentary candidate Vital Kamerhe.
Local media reported that at least three people, including military personnel, were killed during the attempted coup.
In September 2023, there were unconfirmed media reports of a previous coup attempt in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
