On Sunday, March 17, the IDF announced the death of 22-year-old Captain Daniel Perez, a unit commander of the 77th Battalion of the Sa'ar Mi-Golan Brigade, who was abducted by terrorists near the Gaza Strip border on October 7, 2023.
Perez's family received notification of his death from the IDF. Following his passing, he was posthumously promoted from lieutenant to captain.
Hamas is still holding Perez's body in the Gaza Strip.
Since the commencement of the ground operation in Gaza on October 27, a total of 249 military personnel have been killed, including those in Gaza, near the Lebanon border, in Judea and Samaria, and as a result of terrorist attacks within Israeli territory.
Since October 7, 592 IDF soldiers have lost their lives in the October 7 terrorist attacks and subsequent war in Gaza.
