IDF Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi has forwarded a letter to State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman in response to the latter's request to initiate an audit of army shortcomings preceding the events of October 7.
The letter expresses concern that shifting focus to the State Comptroller's review could compromise ongoing military operations and security efforts. The IDF Chief of General Staff emphasized that such inspections were traditionally deferred during wartime, stating, "These postponements have not occurred by chance."
He further stated, "I acknowledge my personal responsibility, fully aware of the consequences. The IDF and the security apparatus are committed to conducting a comprehensive review without concealing any information. However, the review must be conducted at a time when proper attention can be devoted to it."
